Downtown YMCA Pool Refurbishment

Medicine Hat, AB (June 9, 2015) Since the initial closure of the Downtown Branch pool in January, the YMCA has engaged in conversations with contractors and we are pleased to inform our members and the community that the repairs are now in progress. On March 4th a two foot break was discovered in the main drain line luckily we were able to excavate around the pipe to find the cause.  After working with our insurance, engineers and contractors the Board of Directors has approved the repairs and upgrades to ensure Alberta 2014 Pool Standards and compliance for continued operations for the next 20-50 years. As part of the refurbishment the plans include enhanced mechanical efficiencies, in pool features and improved aesthetics. The projected timeline for completion is mid-late Fall 2015.

As part of our commitment to our membership we have extended the use for our lane swimmers with the City of Medicine Hat for three months starting June 1st.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we are working diligently to ensure a timely and thorough repair. All other areas of the facility remain open as usual. Please refer to our website for ongoing updates.
